the Difference Between an Electric Skateboard and a Hoverboard
Buying one of these two innovative devices makes you feel like you're living in the future. And why shouldn't you feel that cool? A hoverboard or electric skateboard is powerful locomotion that can help get you around town without relying on petrol, diesel oil, or any fuel. Just plug it into an electrical outlet for some power and enjoy your eco-friendly ride.
But what's the difference between an electric skateboard and a hoverboard?
Although they share similar features, there are many differences between them! They do have several things in common: They both don't require gasoline to run, so they are eco-friendly modes of transportation. They both are small enough to be carried in one hand. And they can help you get around your neighborhood without getting tired! However, some features distinguish them from each other.
What is an Electric Skateboard?
An electric skateboard, also known as a remote control skateboarding or motorized skateboard, has some propulsion mechanism under the deck, allowing for serious speed and quick turns. It has two small wheels similar to those found on inline skates. There are usually no handlebars (although models do come with them), but typically there will be a hand-grip for steering and accelerating.
It also has a remote control for you to activate the electric motors or brakes quickly, and some models will even allow you to configure their top speed. Some models have Bluetooth connectivity to be controlled via an app on your smartphone. The board is usually powered by rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, with some models running as fast as 26 mph. Not only that, but it's also possible to attach them with surfboard carriers or snowboard racks. Because of this, these boards are trendy among extreme sports enthusiasts who want something more than just skateboards or longboards.
What is a Hoverboard?
A hoverboard, or a self-balancing scooter, is a board with two wheels and a platform on which you stand while it's switched on. Some have handlebars for steering, whereas the more expensive ones will even allow you to lean side to side for better turns. The basic idea behind their operation is that it propels the board forward via electric motors placed inside the device's base when you lean forward slightly. If you're tilting backwards, then it will slow down or even go into reverse. Operating one is mostly intuitive, but first-time riders will have difficulty mastering perfect balance on it. Plus, the device may reach speeds of up to 17 mph, which means that you'll need to be careful when operating them on sidewalks or public roads so as not to endanger yourself or others.
What about Price?
If you're looking at price tags only, then there's no doubt that hoverboards are the more affordable option. You can get one of these for around $300 or so, while an electric skateboard will run you at least twice as much. However, if you're looking into long-term costs, then it's smarter to invest in an electric skateboard since its components (such as motors) will be worth quite a bit when you decide to resell it in the future.
What about Safety?
Both devices are relatively safe when used correctly, but if they bump into people or objects, they may cause injuries. After all, they don't have any kind of suspension system like in cars or motorcycles. Plus, with their top speeds reaching around 20 mph, falling off them usually means painful injuries for the user! Hoverboards have a slightly better safety track record since they're not as fast, but it's still recommended to wear protective gear while using them.
As truck drivers, we're expected to know everything about trucks, such as truck driver slang and software, In the end, it all comes down to your personal preferences and intended use. If you want something affordable that will allow you to get around your neighbourhood with ease, then a hoverboard is perfect for you. However, if you want something faster and more powerful, an electric skateboard is the way to go!
