How to Properly Replace Wheels on an Electric Skateboard?

by Charlie Mu on Oct 14, 2022

Wheels are an interesting part of an electric skateboard that offers many choices and can change the riding experience exceptionally with little modifications. We provide Possway T2&T3 with an option of 90mm wheels and 105mm wheels that are suitable for different situations. The smaller 90mm wheels are lighter and can be handled more nimbly. The 90mm wheels also have quicker acceleration than the 105mm wheels and are more suitable for smooth city roads. For roads that are a little bit rocky, the larger shock-absorbing 105mm wheels provide a more comfortable and stable ride. The 105mm wheels are accessible to more terrains and can hold speed longer.

With the information listed above, I’m sure you know how to choose wheels that best fit your needs. If you are going to skate on asphalt and well-paved concrete roads, 90mm wheels are your choice. If you are going to skate in some rockier places, then 105mm wheels are the way to go. If you seek some thrills and get an adrenaline rush, 90mm wheels that offers quicker acceleration and better agility are good for some exciting tricks. Apart from regular wheels, Possway T2&T3 are also compatible with 105mm starry LED wheels that flash red while skating, bringing more fun to your night ride.

Now that you are aware of which wheels to utilize under different conditions, what should you do if you want to switch out the wheels? The wheels of electric skateboards also need to be changed if they are broken or used for too long. How to properly replace wheels on an electric skateboard? If you are a beginner and have never changed wheels on your electric skateboard before, the guide below is for you.

First, you need to prepare the skateboard Y tool and skateboard T tool that is included in the package. Both Possway T2&T3 use hub motors that are quieter and require less maintenance. For hub motors, the steps to replace the front wheels and rear wheels are different.

To replace the rear wheels, please follow the steps below:

  • Step 1: Unscrew all bolts off
  • Step 2: Take down the motor cover
  • Step 3: Take down the wheel (Tips: used wheel sleeve might be stuck with the motor, a gentle strike on the rim would swap it out, but don’t strike the motor)
  • Step 4: Put the new wheel sleeve on the motor (some lube might help)
  • Step 5: Put back the motor cover, get all the bolts tightened
  • Step 6: Do the same for the other front wheel

  • Step 1: Unscrew the nut
  • Step 2: Take down the screw washers and the wheel
  • Step 3: Put the new wheel in the rod first, then the washer
  • Step 4: Get back the nut, get them tightened (you can spin the wheel to check if it is tightened too much)
  • Step 5: Do the same for the other rear wheel
